it was only this morning that i noticed, written on the paper of my wrapped black forest ham, ET Phone Home.
at the market, the boy with the sloppy smile at the meat counter, when he asked for my initials. so i laughed while making my lunch.

luxuries of the morning
new brakes, smart new eyeglasses, two cheese danishes, and a bundle of pussy willows.
i smiled at you i smiled at you i smiled at you
i smiled at you i smiled at you i smiled at you

oh today, smiling today
waking up just now, the sky is peach and baby blue. sun is setting and the bare trees are turning golden.
'til the moon comes out
tiny bits all tied up, and suddenly i am eyes wide open. one afternoon is enough, maybe it's all i can ask for. warm air and shifting sunshine, and hello freckles.
wearing a flowery dress on a windy day, i was flashing up and down college street, and giggling.
then chocolate sauce and pear and banana, best afternoon snack out on the deck.
and those barely blooming purple hyacinths on my windowsill.
now A Nice EP by The O'Darling, laying in clean white sheets, in my nylons still. a catnap i think.
west palm beach in 10, maybe when i get back the green will be here to stay.
